Even though I'm not very good at it, I enjoy writing. So what better way to practice than through a blog. I'm sure I will have some good posts and probably some bad ones. Hopefully I will get better as I go along and you will hang with me!
I live in small-town Kansas - grew up in Kansas and have lived in Kansas most of my life. I've had the privileage of following Martina McBride long before she got her recording contract. Her current album "Waking Up Laughing" has a wonderful song on it about being a girl from "Small Town Nowhere." A great song for her and a very fitting title for me also; whence my blog name.
Martina is someone I greatly admire. Not only is she an awesome singer, but she is a great role model for all of us to pattern our lives around. I had the wonderful privilege once of interviewing her for a newspaper that I work for. That was an unbelievable experience for me.
As I mentioned, I work for a newspaper. I took a year-and-a-half off from the newspaper and went to work in a prison, starting out working for a Christian based program. I then went to work for the prison in records, and am now going back to the newspaper. I certainly found out how naive I am to things of the world. Living in a small town can pretty much blanket you from the realities of the world.
I've been married for almost 21 years, and have twins who will be juniors in high school. When the kids were born, for some reason I never imagined them growing up and leaving home. I know I'm not ready for them to leave at this point, but who knows? Maybe by the time they leave in two years, I will be.
